There’s no reason you can’t combine your morning and nighttime drinks, and that’s what this cocktail is all about. Rye whiskey is a nice complement to the earthy, roasty flavors of espresso. —INGRAIN, Fall/Winter 2019

Makes 1 cocktail
2 ounces Rittenhouse Rye
1½ ounces espresso (brewed)
¼ ounce simple syrup
4 dashes orange bitters
¼ cup heavy cream
Orange peel
COMBINE
2 ounces Rittenhouse Rye + 1½ ounces espresso (brewed) + ¼ ounce simple syrup in a cocktail shaker.
FILL
Shaker with ice and shake vigorously for several seconds. Strain mixture into a coupe or other small cocktail glass.
COMBINE
4 dashes orange bitters + ¼ cup heavy cream in a milk frother (or use an immersion blender) and mix until foamy. Spoon foamed cream on top of cocktail, garnish with an orange peel, and serve.
